Rise and shine!

While the semester may be over, the grind is just starting for some RTS Scholars. They are stepping out of their comfort zones by studying abroad this summer.

These Scholars are applying what they've learned, exploring new career paths, and experiencing adventures that will last a lifetime. For many former foster youth, that kind of opportunity can feel out of reach. When your primary concern is affording rent and groceries, traveling to a new city, let alone a new country can feel like an unattainable luxury.

That has changed thanks to supporters like you.

This year, RTS introduced a Study Abroad Scholarship to expand access to academic experiences that support Scholars' educational and career goals. Designed specifically for Scholars pursuing study abroad programs, the scholarship helps ensure that financial barriers do not prevent talented young people from participating in opportunities that build confidence, adaptability, cross-cultural competency, and other skills valued by today's employers.

RTS Scholars Abroad!

California Politics Firsthand: Laura and Sarai in Sacramento

RTS Scholars Laura and Sarai recently had the opportunity to visit the office of California Assembly Member Isaac Bryan. Thanks to the Study Abroad Scholarship, which covered their travel expenses, both scholars were able to take full advantage of this learning opportunity, including sitting in on a live lobby session.

Witnessing the fast-paced world of California politics, Laura and Sarai left Sacramento with a strengthened commitment to building a career in Sacramento. Thank you for giving Scholars the experiences to develop their education knowledge into future careers paths.

Comparative Mental Health: Tabitha in Taiwan

This year, RTS Scholar Tabitha graduated from Cal State University Channel Islands with a degree in Psychology. However, less than 24 hours after her commencement ceremony, she caught a flight to Taiwan to begin her two week study abroad program.

While there, she is getting a firsthand look at how traditional Chinese medicine is utilized to treat both physical and mental health conditions. For a future mental health professional, being able to understand different types of medicine practices is invaluable as she starts her career journey.

The 2025 Impact Report is Here!

2025 was a year that presented challenges for the RTS community: from the January wildfires that disrupted homes and schools across Los Angeles, to broader challenges like reductions in federal aid.  However through it all, RTS Scholars showed up for each other, and supporters like you showed up for them.
