Too many foster youth in college were left to navigate the journey alone. Graduation often meant losing access to housing, food, healthcare, and community. With no safety net, no network, and no clear next step, the path forward became uncertain. We knew that had to change.

Around a dining room table, we asked six former foster youth one question: “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Their answers were bold—lawyer, marketing executive, finance professional. But even more powerful was the moment someone finally said to them, “We believe in you.” From that spark, RTS was born.
We started by opening doors through our own networks—offering internships, mentorship, and belonging. That small circle has since grown into a powerful community of hundreds of professionals, mentors, and employers rallying behind our scholars. Today, nearly 500 students across more than 25 colleges in California are supported each year. And we’re just getting started.

We walk with students for more than four years, from sophomore year through their first year in the workforce. Our model is built on five pillars that guide this journey: career coaching, network building, paid internships, financial support, and mental health resources. Together, these elements create a strong foundation for long-term success.
The impact is clear. 100% of RTS Scholars graduate within six years. 85% secure career-track jobs within just 12 months. And 95% say they feel hopeful about their futures.

Behind every number is a story. One of our first scholars now serves on our board. Another alum is leading a company’s diversity hiring initiative. And a young person who once faced uncertainty is now envisioning a future brighter than their past. These stories are why we do this work.
These stories are why we do this work.
As we enter our 10th year, our mission remains the same: To ensure no foster youth has to navigate college or career alone.
Because with the right support, relationships, and resources—there is no limit to what they can achieve.
