Another Camp Ready Win!

Last month, Ready to Succeed welcomed our newest cohort of 42 former foster youth into the Career Accelerator Program at Camp Ready. Over three days, Scholars from across California built community, gained confidence, and developed the skills and relationships that will support them throughout college and their careers.

For the first time, Camp Ready also welcomed returning Scholars, who participated in advanced career development workshops, explored industries through a Career Exploration Fair with employer partners, and helped welcome the newest members of the RTS community.

Workshops focused on professional storytelling, resume development, interviewing, workplace success, and career exploration, with sessions led by RTS alumni like Chrisie and volunteer professionals from organizations including NBCUniversal, AEG, and Calibrate Earth. Here is what newest RTS Scholar Miranda had to say:

"The volunteers explaining their career paths in depth and answering questions so honestly was greatly appreciated. It gave me confidence knowing there are people I can turn to if I have questions about my career path." - RTS Scholar Miranda

In today’s competitive job market, these opportunities matter. When Scholars can explore industries, meet professionals, and learn about internship and career opportunities early, they gain an important edge as they prepare to enter the workforce after graduation. Thank you for giving former foster youth the confidence, resources, and opportunities they need to graduate college and launch meaningful careers.

Kicking Off Project Dorm Room!

As the new school year approaches, more than 300 former foster youth are preparing to move into college dorms across California. While many students arrive with the support of family, former foster youth, often move in alone, bringing little more than their clothes and a few personal belongings.

That lack of support creates immense pressure. Nationally, only 4% of former foster youth go on to earn a bachelor’s degree often due of the lack of financial and emotional support they receive compared to their peers.

That is where Project Dorm Room comes in.

Since 2017, supporters like you have helped equip more than 1,000 students across Southern California with high-quality bedding, towels, toiletries, school supplies, and other dorm room must-haves. More than a box of supplies, Project Dorm Room gives students a strong sense of belonging, and a reminds them that a community is cheering them on as they begin this next chapter.

"Receiving these items makes me feel welcome. Being a foster youth makes you feel like less of a person, like you’re not enough and looked down on. Your support motivates me to do great."– 2025 PDR Recipient Oscar, CSUN

Hundreds of former foster youth are preparing to move into their dorms and begin a new school year.

Will you be in their corner this year?
